Hockey and rocks

Yesterday Jalen
helped his ball hockey team win and move up in the league standings.  Love this pix of James walking with Jalen as he changes ends between periods. They rotate the goalie position and it was Jalen's turn yesterday - he loved it!

Lexi not so much - as  it relates to the game anyway. She was busy collecting rocks to store in Tracey's purse and walking with her dollie in front of the viewing stand and beyond!

If you love the colour red...

...you would love these earrings. I ordered them via facebook (which I rarely do) from Heather O'Cain in the USA (and I normally shop only for "Canadian made.")

So I made a couple of exceptions to my rules - but I love the earrings.   Heather is on twitter and facebook at BluKatDesign if you are interested.

You have a nice weekend.

A downtown rainbow

A downtown rainbow may be between buildings but a rainbow is still a beautiful thing... don't you think?

Today I worked on Paradise for a few hours - printed the last 50 pages and marked them up, yet again! It never ends.

Have a great Friday evening.

High Risk Jobs

If you look very closely you will see two men on top of this building-in-the-sky and they are reaching up to catch the cement vat headed their way.   My view of the Rosedale Valley isn't the best any more.  JC, JCL and SB you will see for yourself when you visit next month.

Pride in my hometown

A friend has made cards for me to use when promoting From the Heart. I'm from Middleton, Nova Scotia and as you drive into my hometown  you see a sign saying "Middleton, Heart of the Valley."  Fitting don't you think? Given my connections to hearts via Comfort Hearts I mean.

Thanks to Lynda Fairn, also from Middleton and also a cancer survivor, for the cards.

From the heart,

Carol Ann

Boston and area

Moving on will look very different to all of my Boston and area friends and supporters of the Comfort Heart Initiative who live in the USA.  We are proud of you, we stand with you and we cheer you on as you begin the difficult journey of moving forward.  Life can be so terribly unfair and so unkind.

Paradise

Today I am writing - I have neglected my novel, Paradise, for over a month.

From the Heart has taken all of my time but today I have put that aside.

Feels good.

What are you doing today?

Boston...thinking of everyone there

What a tragedy on so many levels.

There are no words.

Weekend adventure...

Jalen was busy with ball hockey and Lexi was busy with her dolls - multiple dolls as in about ten of them.  She sits each doll on a separate chair, gives them each their own  playdoh and then pats each doll on the head and lovingly says, "Lucky girl!"What a joy to listen to her.

Jalen and I watched the Leaf's 'ruin' the Habs on Saturday evening. Mom and Dad were out so I let Jalen stay up until the end of the game....Nana's can do that!  We had such a great time together.

They are both growing up so fast.

Ordering information for From the Heart

I don't mind the pace I am working at today - I had to make two trips to the post office to mail out your orders for copies of From the Heart. Thanks so much for your support.   You can also go to www.cbcf.org/atlantic or call the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation at 1 866 273 2223 to place your order.

I now know the cost of mailing one book, a package of three books and a package of eight! Learning as I go.

Thanks so much for continuing to support what I believe in.

From the heart,

Carol Ann

Jalen's understanding of the word "cancer"

This past weekend I shared my new book, From the Heart, with James and family. We were not sure if Jalen knew what the word cancer means so I was ready for the discussion as he read the dedication in the front of my book. (The book is dedicated to Jalen and Lexi.)

He finished reading the dedication and the conversation between Jalen and I went like this -

"Jalen do you know what the word cancer means?"

"Yea."
"What does cancer mean?"

"It means you get sick and die."

"Actually Jalen not everyone who has cancer dies."

"Yea they do Nana - if they get cancer they die."

"Not true Jalen. I have had cancer twice and I am alive and very healthy."

"Oh - that's good.  Can I read my book now?"

End of discussion.

Not such a heavy conversation after all.

Have a gentle Tuesday.

Taking care of others

Lexi loves to share her early morning breakfast with her Dolly (and her name is "Dolly" by the way)  You will notice that as she gives Dolly a drink of milk she pulls her head back by the hair. And she does this again and again during breakfast always totally serious.   She also carries on a conversation with Dolly and it would appear that Dolly replies too!  A great way to begin the early morning with this beautiful little girl.

Friday April 5th

This is kind of how I am feeling this morning.  Your reaction to yesterday's post has been overwhelming and I am so thankful to each and every one of you.

I am going to take the weekend off and head north to visit with my family. Jalen and Lexi are always very grounding for me!  They make it all simple.

And, one more before the big reveal

One of the reasons I am so comfortable talking about From the Heart as much as I have already (even before it is out!) is because proceeds are going to my friends at the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.  This book is not about me - it is about 80-some 'holders-of-the-heart' who are featured in the book with their own personal story.

April brings ....
